Writing an entire guidebook on the city is not as daunting a task as distilling all that makes the city great into said book. To accomplish this I mixed top tourist attractions and personal favorite spots, with an emphasis on off-Broadway theaters, global comfort food, and epic walks, including for the second edition, one trek through the length of Central Park weaving nature and history together in each step. The resulting book contains my practical and heartfelt advice for discovering the city I love.

Around the World in 80 Adventures
Simultaneously sating wanderlust and a restless adrenaline junkie’s spirit while sticking to a strict word count is how we were able to cram eighty heart-stopping excursions into eight glossy pages. Using my experience traveling across six continents, I sorted through an avalanche of experiences to find the ones that would sit happily atop Men’s Health readers’ bucket lists. Tracking gorillas, kayaking through an ice sheet, and sleeping on a pontoon in the Great Barrier Reef are just a few that made the cut.
The Moth
To mark an increase of direct flights from the Belgian capital to the big apple, I was asked to profile a homegrown New York cultural institution and immediately thought of the Moth. What sets them apart from other literary series: stories that are not read but told and storytellers who are often regular people, so i focused on demystifying their coaching process. Weaving in my own experiences at shows was a way to give a flavor of the Moth’s history along with the process.

To tell the story of Russ and Daughters is to tell the story of the Immigrant American dream: from a pushcart to an appetizing institution with a fervent following. Sitting down with the fourth generation of owners, we alternated bites of herring, nova and more than a few schmears with conversation on the intricate process of smoking fish, the rapidly changing Lower East Side, and how one’s ambitions and ideas of success can morph over time. I folded all of these layers together to show not just what it takes to make these iconic dishes but what drives the people who do.
